Pottery Classes

A friendly pottery student in Oakland/Berkeley making a simple form on the wheel in a bright, intimate studio

Single Drop-In

A one-time throwing class. Practice centering clay on the potter’s wheel, creating a simple form (a bowl, cup, planter, etc.). You can expect to make 1-2 pieces for pickup in 4-6 weeks.

TRY THROWING
Family members learn to throw and trim their work, taking an introductory pottery class

Class Bundles

Design a class bundle: multiple throwing classes and trimming classes to explore stages of the pottery process and build your skills. 2, 4 or 6-Class Bundles are popular. Classes need to occur within 1-8 days.

Claydates

Reserve the studio for a private throwing session for you and your guest(s) (seats up to 5). Popular for dates, family outings, besties, intimate birthday gifts or anniversaries!

Throwing vs. Trimming

What’s the difference, and do you need to take both?

1.Throwing

 Make something on the wheel! Work with wet clay on the wheel, spinning it and pressing it with your hands. Once the clay is centered, you learn various techniques to create a form. Bowls, cups, and saucers are popular. It is squishy and messy and chaotic and fun!

2.Trimming

Optional follow-up to throwing: carve your work on the wheel after it has dried to a “leather hard” state. Flip the piece upside down, secure it to the wheel and carve it with a metal loop tool, refining the overall shape and creating a “foot.”

Workshops

Waveform offers team-building workshops on the wheel or featuring hand-building techniques. Bring a tactile experience to your team and get grounded: reach out to the studio for rates and schedule some clay time for your team. Seats up to 10.
